Behrang Bidadian is a researcher, analyst, GIS specialist, and Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) focused on disaster risk assessment and resilience. He holds a Ph.D. in Human and Community Development from West Virginia University. At the West Virginia GIS Technical Center (WVGISTC), he works at the intersection of data, research, and practice to help communities understand and mitigate natural hazards, including floods and landslides. He also contributes to projects related to sustainable development and data analysis. He enjoys collaborating with local communities, emergency managers, and fellow researchers to turn complex data into actionable insights that support planning, policy, and safety.
Behrang’s research interests include sustainable and resilient development, urban and community planning, disaster risk assessment, risk mitigation, social vulnerability to disasters, environmental equity, geospatial risk analysis, and risk index development. He has held key roles in developing tools and frameworks that help emergency managers and planners make data-driven decisions, and he is passionate about sharing knowledge to bridge research and real-world impact. He is motivated by the goal of making communities safer and more resilient, and he enjoys exploring new tools, learning, and thinking creatively about how data can inform practical solutions.
